Advice to help you avoid nasty surprises when moving
One of the reasons why moving home often feels so stressful is because of the money involved – especially if you’re buying and/or selling a property. We all know that there are certain costs, such as stamp duty (if you’re not a first-time buyer) and solicitor’s fees that we need to factor into moving home, but there are some expenses that often catch movers out, as Ideal Home recently pointed out.
When you’re arranging a mortgage, it’s essential to make sure you understand the mortgage fees involved, the news provider noted, to ensure you’re not caught out and end up having thousands added to the amount you’re borrowing.
These fees can come in the form of arrangement fees with your lender, or broker fees if you get a financial professional to arrange your mortgage for you. However, it’s worth noting that not all mortgage brokers charge their customers a fee, as many will receive a commission from the lender instead – it certainly pays to ask!
Homeowners can also end up losing out on much-needed cash if they don’t allow for delays when planning their move in Christchurch, Ringwood, Bournemouth or beyond. Certain pieces of paperwork will be time bound, which means that you may need to reapply for them if that period elapses.
A basic valuation is a good example, with these documents typically valid for six months from the date of issue. The publication recommended building in a contingency of 10–20 per cent of your moving budget to help you cover such costs should the process take longer than expected.
Incorrectly estimating your removals needs is another area where you could fall down – either by underestimating how many belongings you have to move, and therefore leaving yourself open to additional charges, or by overestimating and therefore paying more than you need to.
Our bespoke quotes eliminate that concern. When you contact us at Removals Unlimited, we will carry out a free survey of your property and belongings – either in person or via a video call – to enable us to put together a free, no-obligation quote for our services.
That way you can rest assured you’ll only be paying for the support you actually need when you move home. We can also tell you about our other services, such as our secure storage facilities and our furniture dismantling and reassembly service, which may be of interest to you.
The Yorkshire Post recently highlighted four additional actions to add to your pre-moving to-do list to prevent being landed with a hefty fine. Failing to update your driver’s licence with your new address, for instance, could see you fined up to £1,000!
Meanwhile, if you have a pet and fail to update the address on their microchip, this too could land you with an unnecessary bill of up to £500
Let our experienced team of professional movers take some of the stress and hassle of moving home off your shoulders – we are a bespoke, reliable and experienced removals company that is ready to serve you.
