What size removal vehicle will I need?

We accumulate a surprising amount of belongings throughout our lives. Often, it’s only when we’re getting ready for a house or flat move that we realise just how much we actually have in our homes.

As soon as you start looking around at your furniture, your belongings and thinking of everything that’s stashed in drawers and cupboards, the enormity of the amount of possessions you have will probably hit home.

Updater estimated how many boxes you need to move from different sized properties and while the figures are based on US house removals, they probably aren’t too different to what you’d expect in the UK.

For example, the website estimated that someone with a studio flat will need somewhere in the region of 40 boxes of varying sizes to move their belongings to a new home. For a two-bedroom house, you’re looking at closer to 100 boxes, again of varying sizes. And this is before you take any furniture into account.

It’s hard to visualise what that will look like and, more importantly, how you’ll fit that number of boxes plus furniture into a removals vehicle.

Before you start Googling the internal dimensions of various types of van, let us reassure you! At Removals Unlimited, we have years of experience managing all types of move and we will work out exactly what size of removal vehicle - or vehicles - are required to transport all your belongings and furniture safely from your old home to your new one.

Our free, no-obligation house survey takes into account not only your furniture but also how many belongings you have and how many boxes you’re likely to require. If you choose our full packing service you won’t even have to worry about packing all the boxes as we take care of everything for you.

When it comes to the vehicles we use, we have a fleet of 3.5 tonne Luton vans with tail lifts and 7.5 tonne trucks (and bigger!). The tail lifts are important for heavier items like American fridge-freezers, upright, baby grand and grand pianos. This not only saves effort, but also means the chances of anything being damaged are much lower.

We’re professional packers, movers and storers, which means we know how to load a van to maximise the space inside within safe loading capacities, and to ensure that all of your furniture and belongings are secured. It’s a little bit like a real-life game of Tetris!

Which? puts it extremely well when explaining why you should enlist services like ours rather than attempting to move house by yourself: “Consider how many possessions you have. Now imagine having to pick up each one of them, carry it across an obstacle course (including stairs) and put it down without breaking your back - and all to a deadline.”

Packing the removals van is certainly something worth considering, and a very good reason why it’s best to hire trained professional movers like us rather than attempting to do it yourself. We will always make sure that we have the right vehicle or vehicles available for your move. We’ll make sure that they’re loaded safely and appropriately. So, while it might be appealing to choose a cheaper option, you have to think about the other cost.

Let us do the heavy lifting (literally!) and take all the stress out of your move. Contact us today for your free, no-obligation home survey and quote.
