Top tips for moving your house plants
During lockdown, many of us have added to our house plant collections, especially those living in flats or other properties with little or limited outdoor space. In fact, an article for The Conversation revealed that one online plant store in the UK saw its sales increase by 500% in the first lockdown!
If you have gradually been increasing your house plant collection and are now preparing to move home, how can you make sure that all the greenery you’ve been lovingly nurturing is moved safely without suffering any damage?
At Removals Unlimited, our trained professional movers will work closely with you to ensure that all of your plants are correctly prepared for transport, and then loaded and unloaded from our removal vans and trucks on the day of your move.
Mind Body Green recently offered some advice to any plant lovers out there who are preparing to move home and want all of their beloved foliage to survive the transition intact. The first piece of advice is to allow your plants to dry out before the move. The reason being that this makes them lighter and easier to transport, which is particularly important for any larger plants you have.
When it comes to actually packing your plants and getting them ready for your moving day, the first piece of advice is to cover the top of the pot itself. Use a plastic bag and some tape to seal around the plant as this will prevent the soil from falling out. You just need to ensure you don’t cover the drainage holes in the bottom of the pot so that the roots can still breathe.
For larger plants with foliage that spreads out, gently tie the leaves together using string and then wrap them in paper to protect them from damage while they’re in transit.
