Moving home this Christmas? We’ve got you covered

You might think that moving home in December is a crazy thing to do. But many people move house at this time of year. In fact, figures from the HomeOwners Alliance (HOA) show that more people move house in December than in January, February, March or April.

Peak season for moving home is in the height of summer, but December is still busy – there’s just the added hurdle of Christmas.

Although Christmas is a wonderful time of year, if you’re moving home you’ve got more to worry about than simply how you’ll get the tree up in time for December 25th. You have to fit in your move around all the usual festive parties, not to mention doing some Christmas shopping.

That means being organised is more important than ever. This is where Removals Unlimited in Bournemouth can help. We have a whole team of trained professional packers and movers, just waiting to help you get packed up and settled into your new home.

We always recommend our full packing service for a house move, but at Christmas this can be especially beneficial. Instead of having to set aside evenings and weekends to get on with your packing, leave that to us.

You don’t have to miss out on the work Christmas do or drinks with your friends just because you’re moving home. Use our full packing service and we’ll take care of everything, from providing all the boxes and other containers to carefully packing all your belongings into them.

What’s even better is that this generally only takes us two consecutive days to pack and move your house, so you don’t have to face weeks of disruption while your move is being managed.

As it’s Christmas, make sure you know where all your decorations are. Most of us stash these in boxes for the 11 months that they’re not needed, so dig yours out early and make sure they’re clearly labelled. That means you can deck the halls soon after moving in and make your new home feel festive and cosy.

Real Homes recently offered some advice for anyone who’s aiming to move house before Christmas Day. One of the most important things to remember is that December 20th is likely to be your cut-off for completing a purchase this year.

Although there are technically two more working days before Christmas, many people will be taking those off work, so you can’t guarantee your solicitor or estate agent will be there to finalise the sale and purchase. Plan for this so you don’t miss out. It also means you’ve got four days to get settled and unpack your Christmas presents.

If you have children, it’s important to keep the Christmas spirit as much as possible, even in the midst of a move. A top tip is to get family or friends to look after the kids for you on moving day. If you can put up a few Christmas decorations before you bring them to your new home, so much the better. It will help to get them excited about the coming festivities and show them that Christmas hasn’t been forgotten because of the move.

Don’t worry if you haven’t arranged for a removal company to help you move in December yet. Contact us and we’ll carry out a free house survey to assess your moving requirements. We’ll provide your no-obligation quote on the same day.
