Did you know we offer an export packing service?

A lot of people have been moving within the UK, whether that’s to a larger home in the same area or having a complete change of scene (like the many people who chose to relocate to the South West in 2020 and earlier this year). But for some, moving might mean an even bigger change, like moving to a new country.

Of course, emigrating throws up a whole set of different challenges for those who decide they would like to experience life in another country, but with our export packing service you can rest assured that all your treasured possessions and furniture will make the journey safely to wherever you are setting up home.

It seems that a growing number of Brits are choosing to relocate, with Schengen Visa Info News reporting earlier this year that the number of British people leaving the UK to set up home in the EU was at a 10-year high, according to the latest data available.

Regardless of whether you’re moving to the EU or even further afield, there are a few additional things to consider when it comes to planning a move that crosses borders. Firstly, the way in which your belongings are packed is different to how we pack items for a standard move within the UK.

Part of our export packing service involves ensuring that all of your possessions are packed securely and carefully to enable them to be shipped, by either sea or air, to your new home, allowing you to focus on the other practicalities involved with moving your life to a new country.

We have a trusted network of transport suppliers who we can contact to arrange the collection and delivery of your belongings too, so this will take a great deal of stress off your shoulders during the moving process. If necessary, we are happy to advise on bespoke export packaging and crating, as well as on the insurance you will need.

As Unbiased noted in an article at the end of 2020, there are a number of elements to consider when you are emigrating. Moving your possessions is just one part of the puzzle. It’s also essential to consider what visa you will need (and whether you have to pay for this) and whether any of the belongings you’re taking with you will be liable for customs duty. This typically applies to the likes of cars, but each country will have its own rules around what is taxable.

You may decide you don’t need or want to take all of your belongings and furniture with you when you emigrate, especially if you’re only planning to leave the country for a year or two. In which case, you may want to store some of your possessions in the UK so they are here for your return.

We pack, move and store, so we can help with this too! Our secure, weatherproof and clean storage units are available at our Bournemouth storage facility and we are happy to pack your belongings ready for storage, keeping them safe until you move back to the UK.
