Asking prices for UK properties fall in August

We know that house prices in the UK are high, but there has been some good news for buyers in recent months – property asking prices have fallen ever so slightly and mortgage rates are also beginning to fall.

The latest figures from Rightmove show that average UK property prices were down by 1.9 per cent in August, compared to July this year. Usually there is a slight dip in house and flat prices in August each year, but this averages 0.9 per cent, so this is a bigger drop than would usually be expected at this time of year.

What’s more, five-year fixed-rate mortgage deals have started to drop as well, coming down to an average of 5.81 per cent after hitting 6.08 per cent, on average, at the start of August. All of this is good news for buyers.

However, the latest government statistics show that the number of transactions in the UK’s residential housing market is 16 per cent lower than it was a year earlier. That said, transaction numbers did increase marginally between June and July this year.
