Are property prices set to fall?
There’s no denying that the last month has been a stressful one for anyone who was getting ready to move home or going through the process of buying a property. The mini budget put forward by Kwasi Kwarteng and Liz Truss sparked panic in the markets and sent borrowing rates soaring.
With Rishi Sunak becoming prime minister towards the end of October, mortgage rates have started falling, as This Is Money noted. The financial storm we’ve seen over the past month has certainly put mortgages and the housing market in the spotlight, so what’s going to happen next?
Although we don’t have a crystal ball here at Removals Unlimited, it is looking like there could be a dip in house prices across the UK. The Gaurdian reported that NatWest is predicting a 7% fall in house prices in 2023, while Lloyds Banking Group is expecting them to fall by 8% next year.
If you have yet to get on the property ladder, this could be good news. Of course, the downside is that borrowing has become more expensive and, even though mortgage rates have fallen from the 14-year high they hit in October, they are still higher than they were a year ago.
