Advice to make moving home a little less stressful

We all know that moving home is one of the most stressful experiences we can have. As we revealed in October, one survey found that over half of people consider moving to be the most stressful thing you can do – more stressful than having a child or going through a divorce or relationship breakdown!

November 2 was National Stress Awareness Day, which is when Catherine Jarrett of Bromford, a property developer offering shared ownership properties, spoke to Glos News about how to minimise the stress associated with a house move.

Her top tip is certainly one we would also recommend – start organising your move as early as possible.

In our experience, much of the stress of moving home comes from all the tasks you need to organise along the way. This is what makes the weeks or months leading up to a move stressful, as much as the change of abode itself.

Here at Removals Unlimited, we are always happy to provide a quote for your move, with no obligation and free of charge. You can make a quick enquiry through our website and a friendly member of our team will be in touch to get the details we need so that we can provide you with a comprehensive quote that meets your needs.

We offer a range of additional services, all of which could take a bit more of the stress out of the process of moving. If the thought of packing sends shivers down your spine, let us take this on for you! We will not only pack all of your belongings securely and safely, but will also provide all of the packing materials.

Or you could make use of our furniture disassembly and reassembly service, which will certainly save you hassle on and around moving day, not to mention mean that you are able to start getting settled into your new home more quickly.

We can also disconnect and reconnect many household appliances for you, again taking one more job off of your list on moving day. We always recommend that you get a professional plumber to validate the reconnection and ensure you are covered by your insurance.

Another piece of advice from Ms Jarrett is to declutter as much as possible ahead of your move. This will not only mean you have fewer items to pack and unpack, but also that your reliable removals firm in Poole, Bournemouth, or Christchurch will have fewer boxes to load into their removals trucks and vans, making the whole process smoother and potentially reducing the quote for your move.

She also recommends looking after your health and maintaining a healthy lifestyle during the moving process. We all know how easy it is to reach for junk food when you’re feeling stressed, so make sure you have plenty of healthy options available and do your best to exercise regularly to help you deal with any stress you’re experiencing.

As the Mayo Clinic notes, exercising has a number of direct stress-relieving benefits, from increasing endorphin production to improving your sleep, which is essential for aiding with stress relief.

You could take a leaf out of our founder Morgan’s book and go for a run, jump in for a swim or even head to the squash court!
