Tips to reduce your stress when moving home
Most people would probably describe moving home as stressful. Packing up all your belongings and moving them can feel overwhelming, even if you’re excited by the idea of getting settled into your new home.
A survey by Yopa earlier this year not only found that moving is considered one of the most stressful life events. More stressful than divorce or having a baby, according to the survey. It also revealed how that stress affects us during the moving process.
65 per cent of people said they’d lost sleep during the house moving process. Over one-third (40 per cent) said that they had become so stressed when moving home that they felt ill.
It’s understandable that people find moving home stressful. Nicky Lidbetter, chief executive of charity Anxiety UK, explains that feeling anxious or stressed when you’re moving home is completely normal. Losing the routine, familiarity and order in your life is often what causes people to feel stressed.
We certainly don’t want you to make yourself ill during your move. We offer a range of removal services that can reduce your stress during this time of change by helping to restore some order.
Firstly, we tailor our removal services to suit you. We’ll always carry out a property survey to find out more about your needs and to provide a bespoke quote. This is a free and no obligation service we offer.
We always recommend our full packing service, but particularly if you are worried about not having time to do everything before your move. Our experienced packing team will come to your home and pack all your belongings with the utmost care.
They’re highly efficient and treat your home and possessions like their own. Every double wall cardboard box will be labelled with the name of the room it needs to go into in your new home. This makes the whole unpacking process much easier.
It’s also a good idea to pack your essentials in a single bag. Make sure you have a change of clothes, your toiletries and any medication you need in there. It’s also good to put essential documents in here so you have everything to hand.
We also recommend packing a ‘comfort box’. This can include your kettle, favourite mugs, pillows, toys for the children or even scented candles. It should contain anything you think will help you settle into your new home. Don’t forget to label it clearly.
Remember that the moving process itself is physical. Moving furniture and boxes is tiring. Often you’ll need to be out of your home by a certain time on the day you complete the sale. Don’t add to your stress levels by trying to do this yourself. Let us do the heavy lifting.
We’ll arrive in good time to load all your belongings and furniture into our vans and trucks. All you’ll need to do is pick up your bag of essentials and meet us at the other end with the keys to your new home.
Our team is also trained in furniture dismantling and reassembly. Sofas, beds, wardrobes, tables – you name it, we can take it apart and put it back together again, even without instructions. By giving us these time-consuming jobs, you can focus on what’s important: settling into your new home.
It’s worth noting that we do not use agencies when it comes to our staff! All of our professional movers / packers have been with us since day one and they’re all trained and experienced within our high standards of practice. The team always wears branded uniforms, safety shoes, gloves and even a smile.
