Just how stressful is moving home – and how can you reduce that stress?

People often talk about how stressful moving house is, and there are numerous studies that rank it as one of the most stressful life events we go through. Earlier this year, research conducted by Legal & General found that moving home is considered the most stressful thing you can do in your life.

Over half (57 per cent) of the people they surveyed put this at the top of their list, with “having a child” named as the second most stressful life event, and divorce or a relationship breakup coming in third.

But what is it about moving home that makes it such a stressful process, and what can you do to reduce the stress surrounding settling into a new abode?

Here at Removals Unlimited, we know all too well how stressful the process of moving can be and our dedicated team of removals professionals will do all they can to make life easier for you and to minimise the stress you have to deal with on and around moving day.

However, for many people moving home, the move itself isn’t the most stressful part, it’s money that keeps them up at night. Some 40 per cent of buyers revealed that their biggest fear is not having enough money to cover unexpected expenses.

Packing and unboxing possessions before and after a move was the second most stressful part of moving, according to the respondents of the Legal & General survey, and this is certainly something we are well placed to help with.

Did you know that we offer a full packing service? This means that you don’t need to do more than pack an overnight bag and we will take care of the rest! One of our experienced team will conduct a full house survey before giving you a quote for your move, and we’ll make sure we arrive with all the packing materials we need to transport your belongings safely from one place to the next.

While we can’t do all the unpacking for you at the other end, we do offer a furniture dismantling and reassembly service, which will save you time and stress when you move in (and at least mean you have a bed to sleep in on your first night in your new property!).

Getting help from a professional team of movers and packers is certainly a great way to make your moving day run more smoothly. Other top tips, as Bustle revealed, include making sure you arrange to redirect your post ahead of your move, and contacting utility companies before you move so that you can rest assured all the basics will be taken care of.

Another great piece of advice is to take photos of how all of your electronic equipment is assembled and connected before you take it apart to pack it (or let our team take it apart and pack it). This will make it much easier for you to get everything up and running once you’re in your new home.
