How we give back to our Bournemouth community

At Removals Unlimited, we don’t just carry out removals in the south west of England and beyond. We are committed to supporting our local community in Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch. We regularly give back in any way we can, but we particularly love using our removal skills and expertise to help charities.

That means we regularly carry out free donation runs alongside moving commissions, as well as offering free house clearances if the volume and timescales are manageable, to help ensure that items go to charity shops and get a new lease of life rather than ending up in landfill.

We also provide free cardboard boxes to help charities collect and store the items they can’t fit in their shops yet, which has provided an additional challenge for many in 2020.

An article for The Spectator recently pointed out that many charity shops in the UK have had to stop accepting donations at various points over the past year because they were struggling to find the space to isolate the newly donated items and clean them thoroughly before putting them in their shops.

The items we all donate to local charity shops can have a significant benefit too, with British charity shops raising an average of £300 million a year through sales in their outlets. Of course, that’s likely to be lower in 2020 due to the disruption of the various lockdowns.

But while we might not have been able to spend money in charity shops, more of us than ever before have taken the time to declutter our homes. As we pointed out in our blog in November, almost half of UK households decluttered their homes between March and August.

We have extensive experience of carrying out house clearances and are happy to assist however we can. As well as offering donation runs if you’re unable to take larger or more bulky items to charity shops yourself, we also have a storage facility that’s within easy walking distance of both the British Heart Foundation and Salvation Army charity shops on Winton high street.

That means you can store belongings on our site until you have the time to sort through them, and easily donate any possessions you no longer want to a worthy cause.

The British Heart Foundation even offered some advice to those who would like to make donations to their local charity shop but who might be struggling due to the Covid-19 pandemic. For instance, if you only have a small amount of items to donate, you can use the charity’s freepost service. They will accept parcels weighing up to 10kg.

There is a homes and electrical store operated by the British Heart Foundation in Winton, and we are always happy to help people make donations to this very worthwhile cause. Our professional movers in Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch and Winton can collect furniture that you want to donate and make sure it is safely delivered to the charity. Of course, we also have to be mindful of the current Covid-19 restrictions as the British Heart Foundation, along with other charities, are not accepting donations in Tier 4 areas.

This is why our storage facility could be useful. If we are assisting with your home removal at this time and you have furniture you would like to donate but are unable to take to your new property, our convenient storage facility in Winton could provide the perfect solution. Remember, at Removals Unlimited we pack, move and store!
