How to avoid packing fails when moving home
Moving home can be stressful for a number of reasons. A survey carried out recently by Purplebricks found that the most stressful elements of the process are completing the sale of your current property, waiting for the completion date and… Packing!
This is why we will always recommend our full packing service, because it truly does alleviate a lot of the stress associated with this side of your move. You really won’t have to lift a finger when the professional packers from Removals Unlimited turn up at your door.
However, if you are packing your home up yourself, we’ve got a few top tips to help ensure all of your belongings make it safely from your current abode to your new property.
It seems that this advice could come in handy for many people using a removal company in Westbourne, Winton, Ferndown or other areas in and around Poole and Bournemouth. A survey carried out in the US this year and shared by The Cooperator New York revealed that 40% of Americans said the biggest challenge of their move was losing belongings during the process.
What’s more, 38% said that personal items were damaged or broken during the course of their move.
How can you avoid some of these packing fails if you’re doing it yourself? Take note of the following top tips from our team of professional movers:
● Invest in quality packing materials - the last thing you want is for cardboard boxes to collapse or for tape to come unstuck. Use double-walled cardboard boxes where you can for extra strength and buy quality packing tape (trust us, it’s worth it!).
● Don’t overload your boxes - filling boxes to the brim isn’t the way to pack. Make sure that your boxes are balanced and weigh a sensible amount. If you’re finding it difficult to move them, so will our team of professional movers, not to mention the increased likelihood of a box breaking if it’s too full.
● Label your boxes clearly - it’s best to write on the tops of boxes. Label each box with the room it needs to go into in your new home, as well as its contents. The room is for us, the contents is for your reference. This makes the whole moving process much more efficient, and will make unpacking easier for you too! Write ‘Fragile’ on any boxes containing breakable items as well, so that we know to take extra care.
● Use pallet wrapper - this will make your boxes more secure, both protecting your belongings and making them easier to move and transport.
The research in the US also found that 55% of people found it difficult to obtain the right kinds of packing materials for their move due to the Covid-19 pandemic this year.
