Getting the right packing materials for your move

We know that for most people, packing isn’t a fun task. That’s why you have people like our trained professional packers to help make the process a little easier and less stressful. But if you choose to pack some or all of your belongings yourself, you’ll need to make sure you have the right packing materials to protect your possessions.

At Removals Unlimited, we’re on hand to help with this too. We’ve set up our Box Shop where you can find all the packing materials you’ll require for your move. We even provide free delivery to your door for all local moves (simply call us for this option) - and we’ll also collect the packing materials, free of charge, afterwards too. There’s no need to spend time going to local shops and asking for spare boxes when you organise your removals in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole with us!

While it’s understandable that you might want to take care of some or most of your packing for your move yourself, particularly given the situation with Covid-19, it’s important to get assistance with certain elements of your packing.

As Property Reporter revealed earlier this year, there are some items that are understandably more prone to breakages than others. It’s these items that are best packed by professionally trained movers.

The publication highlighted the items that are most likely to get broken or damaged if they’re packed incorrectly and also pointed out that replacing them could leave you with substantial additional costs.

At the top of the list are mugs and glasses, which while not necessarily expensive to replace on their own, can be costly if entire sets are broken. That’s not to mention the sentimental value of your favourite coffee mug!

Bottles of wine or spirits are also prone to breakage if they’re packed incorrectly. It’s also important that, if you do pack any of these items yourself, you label the boxes correctly so that your movers know what they contain and will pack them accordingly in the removal vehicle.

Another item that can be more easily damaged during a move is lampshades. Their awkward shape and size can make them challenging to pack. Our highly experienced team knows how to protect these awkward items, so it’s certainly worth enlisting our assistance.

Mirrors, artwork, furniture, white goods and books were the other items named as being prone to damage during a move. As you can see, there are many possessions that you’ll need to pack carefully.

If all of this feels a little overwhelming, you can use our full house packing service. There’s another reason why this might be a good idea, as we explained in a previous blog: many home contents insurance policies will only cover a home move if a professional firm carries out the packing and removal.

Of course, the Covid-19 pandemic means there are now other considerations that we all need to bear in mind. Property Industry Eye published updated guidance for the property and removals sector in May this year, explaining how you can get assistance from a house moving company like us and stay safe.

It suggested packing miscellaneous and non-breakable items yourself, but getting assistance with the packing of china, glass and breakable items. If you decide you’d like to use our partial house packing service, we’ll take care of the delicate and breakable items allowing you to focus on packing up the rest of your belongings ahead of moving day.

We are, of course, taking all the necessary precautions in relation to Covid-19 too. All of our staff will wear gloves, masks and visors for moves and will regularly wash and sanitise their hands. You can find out more about the precautions we’re taking to reduce the risk of spreading the virus on our blog.

If you have any questions about our packing services, or would like to receive a free, no-obligation quote for your move, get in touch with us today.
