Ever lost something while moving home?
We all know that moving home is a stressful time and when you’re having to pack your whole life into boxes, it’s easy to see how items could get misplaced or even lost in all the confusion. You might leave something tucked away in a built-in cupboard, or forget a box tucked into the corner of your attic.
Our helpful and diligent team at Removals Unlimited is here to make sure that you don’t forget any of your treasured possessions when you’re moving into your new home.
But it seems that a lot of people do leave things behind when they move. In fact, research by Admiral Insurance revealed that over one-third (39%) of home movers have found unexpected items in their new property after they’ve moved in.
What’s more, nearly half of those surveyed (47%) said that they had lost or misplaced something in the midst of a move.
One removals team even revealed that they had discovered £30,000 in cash hidden in a wardrobe during a removals job!
According to the Admiral research, the most common items people misplace are books or photographs, with 19% of those who have moved home stating that they had lost one or other of these possessions. Jewellery is another item people commonly report misplacing during a move, as are pictures and DIY equipment.
It’s understandable if, in the hustle and bustle of your moving day, you forget to take those final pictures off the walls or don’t check every cupboard to ensure that you haven’t left anything behind.
This is why having a professional team of movers can make all the difference. For example, if you are used to always seeing a picture hanging on your wall, you may forget to take it down when you move out.
That might sound odd, but it happens more often than you’d think! We will certainly notice if you leave anything hanging on your walls, and we’ll make sure that it is removed, packed and transported safely to your new home too.
Because we carry out a free, no-obligation house survey before every move, we’ll have a good idea of all the built-in storage spaces in your property. That means our team of trained professional movers can do final checks in places like the attic, the under-stairs cupboard and fitted wardrobes to make sure that there’s nothing tucked away.
On moving day, this means you’ll be able to travel ahead to your new home without having to worry that anything will be left behind.
If you’re rushing through a home move to try and beat the stamp duty holiday deadline, you might be finding the moving process even more stressful than normal, so let us take a load off and help you not only make the move itself, but also pack the day before you leave your current home to move into your new property. Our full packing service will take care of everything for you.
In 2020, the busiest day for home moves was 18 December, according to Really Moving, which is unusual as the busiest day for moves normally falls in August.
The website noted that all three Fridays in December ahead of Christmas day made it into the top ten busiest moving days of the year for the first time ever, as buyers scrambled to complete purchases before the original stamp duty holiday ended.
We certainly know that it’s been busy in recent months, with many people moving to not only take advantage of the stamp duty holiday, but also to ensure their home better meets their needs now that they are spending more time there.
If you’re looking for a way to reduce the stress of your move, get in touch with our team at Removals Unlimited today to find out how we can help. We pack, move and store, so we can help with every aspect of your move.
