Are you considering a post-lockdown move?

It’s fair to say that lockdown gave us all time to think about what we want out of life, and for some of us that also meant reconsidering where we want to live.

Here in Dorset we feel incredibly lucky to have beautiful coastlines and countryside on our doorstep, and we weren’t surprised to learn that this period made many other people around the UK wish that they had such stunning natural landscapes close by too.

In fact, Rightmove revealed that it recorded its busiest day ever on 27 May, as pent-up demand from house hunters saw traffic to the site increase by 18% compared to the same Wednesday in 2019. The website also revealed that, on 27 May, it surpassed six million visitors for the first time ever.

But where were people looking for homes? It turns out that Bournemouth, along with Devon and Cornwall, was one of the areas to see the biggest increase in buyer demand. The south west as a whole is proving particularly popular, with one estate agent in the South Hams telling Rightmove that interest in this part of the UK is “off the charts”.

Here at Removals Unlimited we’re obviously a little biased, but we think that the south coast, and Bournemouth in particular, is a great place to live.

According to the Rightmove figures, there has been a 17% surge in interest in properties in the BH postcode since the government started to relax the lockdown restrictions. Only Canterbury and Truro saw a bigger climb in buyer interest.

But although we’re based in Bournemouth, we’re a nationwide removals company. Because we know the local area so well, we’re a great choice if you’re planning to relocate to the south west.

Last year, a study by the University of Exeter found that living close to the seaside is beneficial for people’s mental health - yet another great reason to explore the opportunities to move to Bournemouth or elsewhere on the south coast.

Blue space, whether the sea, a lake or another body of water, can help improve people’s mental health, but the research found coastal environments are particularly beneficial.

So, if you’re considering relocating following your experiences in lockdown, you may want to have a look at the properties available in or around Bournemouth, Christchurch or Poole.
